Bruce Carver

Bruce graduated from Eunice High School in New Mexico where he was an All-State, All-South basketball player in 1977. He scored 55 points in a game and led the state in scoring at 33 points a game as a sr. He went on to Lubbock Christian University where he was Second Team All-Conference and set a record for free throw percentage. He was also named to the “All Decade Team” for the 1980’s at Lubbock Christian University.
Bruce started his coaching career as head coach at Melrose, New Mexico at 24 years old. He coached in New Mexico for five years before becoming the head basketball coach at Amarillo Highland Park for eight years. He was district coach of the year six times and the Amarillo Globe News Coach of the year in 1983. His team played for the state championships in 1983 and finished as a Class AA runner up. Overall record was 244 wins and 129 loses as a head coach.
In 1997, Bruce retired from coaching and became the Athletic Director for Hobbs High School in New Mexico for 13 years. In 2007, Bruce left Hobbs to become the District Athletic Director for Rio Rancho Public Schools and still holds this position.
Bruce served on the NMAA Commission for 16 years and was Chairman his last three years. He was also President of the Athletic Directors Association in 2002. He was awarded the NIAAA State Award of Merit and New Mexico Director of the Year in 2002. Bruce was inducted into the New Mexico Hall of Fame in 2017 and was a National Athletic Director finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 2017.
