BORN: NOVEMBER 14,1955 IN HOBBS, NEW MEXICO …CURRENTLY IN HIS THE 9TH YEAR AS THE HEAD COACH OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO (UNM) BASEBALL TEAM. RAY CURRENT COLLEGIATE COACHING RECORD IS 1129-552 OVER 29 YEARS INCLUDING 18 YEARS AT NEW MEXICO JUNIOR COLLEGE (NMJC) AND TWO YEARS AT COLLEGE OF THE SOUTHWEST. HE LED NMJC TO THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE BASEBALL TITLE IN 2005. HE COACHED UNM TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT IN 2011, 2012, 2013 AND 2016, WINNING THE MOUNTAIN WEST TOURNAMENT IN 2011, 2012, AND 2016. RAY WAS NAMED THE MOUNTAIN WEST COACH OF THE YEAR IN 2012 AND 2013. ON FEBRUARY 2, 2008, NMJC NAMED THEIR BASEBALL FIELD AFTER COACH BIRMINGHAM. RAY WAS INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME IN 2011 AND THE LEA COUNTY ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME IN 2012.
